the written word

Do you write love notes anymore?
The handwritten kind that isn’t just a preprinted sentiment in a card that you added a few words too?
The kind where you buy special stationery just to write on?
And just by the look of the envelope, the receiver knows it is something special?
In this day of email, twitter and blogs…..i’m not sure when is the last time i sent someone a handwritten note.
I have a framed, handwritten note on my desk. It was something that Karlee wrote to me when she was in the 8th grade. It was part of a class assignment, yes…but it was still her thoughts and feelings and the teacher took the time to have the students frame it and present it to us at a special reception.
I read the suggestion somewhere that during the week of valentine’s, you should put a red box in your kitchen….and all week long, use that box to leave “love notes” to your family. At the end of the week (or month), pull out the notes and read them.
What would it mean to actually stop and think about all the things we appreciate about our spouse, our children? And take the time to write it down. And realize that this life is all the more precious because of the love that surrounds us every day…if only we stop to see it.
